Best Time to Visit: October to June (Parks are closed during Monsoon, July–September).
Itinerary Overview
Phase 1: The Gateway to Satpura – Madhai (2 Nights)
Madhai is the quietest of the three, focused on a "raw" forest experience. You must cross the Denwa River by boat to even enter the park.
-
Day 1: Arrive at Pipariya Railway Station (the nearest hub). A 1.5-hour drive brings you to Madhai. Check in and enjoy a sunset boat ride or a nature walk.
-
Day 2: Morning Jeep Safari in Satpura Tiger Reserve. In the afternoon, try a Canoe Safari (unique to Madhai) to see crocodiles and migratory birds along the riverbank.
-
Highlights: Night safaris (buffer zone), high chances of Sloth Bear and Indian Gaur sightings.
Phase 2: The Queen of Satpura – Pachmarhi (3 Nights)
A short 3-hour drive from Madhai, Pachmarhi is a hill station where the vibe shifts from "safari" to "exploration."
-
Day 3: Drive to Pachmarhi. Spend the evening at the Pachmarhi Lake or Rajendragiri Sunset Point.
-
Day 4 (The Falls): Dedicate a full day to the waterfalls. Visit Bee Falls, Apsara Vihar, and Rajat Prapat.
-
Day 5 (Heritage & Views): Explore the Pandav Caves, Jata Shankar Cave, and Handi Khoh. End your day at Dhoopgarh, the highest point in MP, for a panoramic sunset.
Phase 3: The Land of the Tiger – Kanha (2 Nights)
Expect a long drive today (roughly 7–8 hours). Kanha is the "crown jewel" of Indian wildlife.
-
Day 6: Early departure for Kanha. Check into your resort and relax with a tribal dance performance or a village walk in the evening.
-
Day 7: Morning and/or Afternoon Jeep Safaris. This is your best chance for a Tiger sighting and to see the famous Barasingha (Swamp Deer), which was saved from extinction here.
-
Day 8: Final breakfast at the resort before driving to Jabalpur (4 hours) for your flight or train home.
-
Safari Bookings: Satpura (Madhai) and Kanha safaris should be booked 60–90 days in advance via the official MP Online portal.
-
Transport: Renting a dedicated AC SUV for the entire loop is the most comfortable way to manage the long stretch between Pachmarhi and Kanha.
-
Packing: Even in summer, early morning safaris are chilly. Bring layers and earth-toned clothing (olive, tan, grey) to blend into the forest.
