Overview

Overview

A trip covering Bhopal and Pachmarhi is a perfect blend of "Lakes, Heritage, and Hillside." Since Bhopal is the gateway to Pachmarhi (about 200 km or 5 hours away), your 1 Night / 3 Night split allows you to soak in the capital’s royal history before retreating into the "Queen of Satpura."

Here is the best tour overview for your 4-night journey.

Tour Summary

  • Duration: 4 Nights / 5 Days

  • Route: Bhopal (1N) $\rightarrow$ Pachmarhi (3N)

  • Best Time to Visit: October to March (Pleasant) or July to September (Lush green waterfalls).

Day 1: The City of Lakes (Bhopal)

  • Morning: Arrive in Bhopal. Check into your hotel and head to the Tribal Museum—it’s widely considered one of the best-curated museums in India.

  • Afternoon: Visit the Taj-ul-Masajid, one of the largest mosques in Asia, followed by a stroll through the Old City for some Bhopali poha or salt tea.

  • Evening: Head to the Upper Lake (Bhojtal) for a sunset boat ride.

  • Stay: Bhopal.

Day 2: Heritage Transit to the Hills

  • Morning: Check out and drive towards Pachmarhi. Stop at the Bhimbetka Rock Shelters (UNESCO site with 10,000-year-old paintings) and the massive Bhojpur Temple (home to a giant monolithic Shiva Lingam).

  • Afternoon: Continue the drive through the winding forest roads of the Satpura range.

  • Evening: Arrive in Pachmarhi, check in, and enjoy the cool mountain air at the local market.

  • Stay: Pachmarhi.

Day 3: Waterfalls & High Peaks

  • Morning: Hire a local 4x4 Gypsy (mandatory for most forest areas). Visit Bee Falls for a refreshing dip and Apsara Vihar (Fairy Pool).

  • Afternoon: Explore the Reechhgarh Caves, a massive natural amphitheater, and the Pandav Caves (where the town gets its name).

  • Evening: Drive to Dhoopgarh, the highest point in Madhya Pradesh, for a legendary sunset view.

  • Stay: Pachmarhi.

Day 4: Spiritual Caves & Deep Gorges

  • Morning: Visit Jata Shankar, a sacred cave where stalactites resemble Lord Shiva's matted hair. Move on to Mahadeo and Gupt Mahadeo caves.

  • Afternoon: Peer into the 300-foot deep ravine at Handi Khoh and take in the views from Priyadarshini Point (where Pachmarhi was first discovered).

  • Evening: Relax at Pachmarhi Lake or visit the colonial-era Christ Church.

  • Stay: Pachmarhi.

Day 5: Departure

  • Morning: After breakfast, check out. You can visit the Bison Lodge Museum to learn about the local flora/fauna before heading back.

  • Afternoon: Drive back to Bhopal Airport/Station or get dropped off at Pipariya Railway Station (the nearest railhead, just 50 km away).
