Detailed Highlights
1. Bhopal (1 Night)
-
The Vibe: A mix of old-world Nawabi culture and modern lakeside beauty.
-
Must-See: The National Museum of Mankind (Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya) is an open-air museum that is widely considered one of the best in India.
-
Pro Tip: Dinner at a lakeside restaurant overlooking the Upper Lake is a must.
2. Pachmarhi (3 Nights)
-
The Vibe: Known as the "Queen of Satpura," this is MP’s only hill station. It feels like a time capsule of colonial-era bungalows and pine-covered hills.
-
Day 1 (En Route): Don't skip Bhimbetka. These rock shelters house paintings that are over 30,000 years old.
-
Waterfalls & Views: Bee Fall is the most popular, but Dhoopgarh is the highest point in Central India—the sunset view there is non-negotiable.
-
Adventure: Rent a 4x4 Gypsy (mandatory for most forest points) to navigate the rugged terrain.
3. Kanha National Park (2 Nights)
-
The Vibe: The inspiration for Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book. It is one of India's best-managed and most beautiful tiger reserves.
-
Wildlife: Apart from the Bengal Tiger, look for the Barasingha (Hard-ground Swamp Deer), which was saved from extinction here.
-
Safari Zones: Try to book the Kanha or Kisli zones for the best sightings, but Mukki is also excellent for tigers.
Traveler's Essentials
-
Best Time to Visit: October to March. Pachmarhi is pleasant, and Kanha is open for safaris (National Parks in MP close from July to September).
-
Transport: The drive from Pachmarhi to Kanha is roughly 320–340 km and takes about 7–8 hours. It's a long but scenic journey through tribal villages and sal forests.
-
Safari Booking: Book your Kanha safaris online at least 60–90 days in advance via the official MP Forest Department website, as they sell out fast.
