The Itinerary
Day 1: Bhopal – The City of Lakes

Focus on the lakes and the world-renowned museums.

  • Morning: Start with Upper Lake (Bada Talab) for a morning stroll or boat ride. Visit the Van Vihar National Park (a drive-through zoo) right next to it.

  • Afternoon: Explore the Tribal Museum. It is arguably one of the best-designed museums in India, showcasing tribal life through immersive art.

  • Evening: Visit Taj-ul-Masajid, one of the largest mosques in Asia, followed by a quick stop at the Birla Mandir on Arera Hills for a panoramic view of the city at sunset.

  • Stay: Bhopal.

Day 2: The Drive to the Queen of Satpura

  • Morning: Checkout and drive toward Pachmarhi. Stop midway at Bhimbetka Rock Shelters (UNESCO site with 30,000-year-old cave paintings) and the massive Bhojpur Temple.

  • Afternoon: Arrive in Pachmarhi and check in.

  • Evening: Head to Dhoopgarh—the highest point in Madhya Pradesh—to witness a spectacular sunset over the Satpura range.

  • Stay: Pachmarhi.

Day 3: Exploring Pachmarhi’s Nature & Mythology

  • Morning (Waterfalls): Hire a local 4x4 Gypsy (mandatory for forest areas). Visit Bee Falls for a refreshing dip and Apsara Vihar (Fairy Pool).

  • Afternoon (Caves & Valleys): Visit the Pandav Caves, where the five brothers are said to have stayed during exile. Then, head to Jata Shankar Cave, a natural cavern dedicated to Lord Shiva.

  • Evening: Visit Handi Khoh, a deep 300-foot ravine with a dramatic "V" shape, and Priyadarshini Point for valley views.

  • Stay: Pachmarhi.

Day 4: Spiritual Departure

  • Morning: Visit Bada Mahadev and Gupt Mahadev (a narrow, 40-foot long cave shrine). If you're feeling adventurous, do a quick trek to Reechgarh, a natural amphitheater-like rock formation.

  • Afternoon: Drive back to Bhopal for your flight or train.

Quick Travel Tips

  • Vehicle Permits: To enter the forest areas of Pachmarhi (like Bee Falls or Dhoopgarh), you must hire a registered local Gypsy. Your private car will not be allowed in these zones.

  • Bhopal Food: Don't miss the "Bhopali Pano" and street food at Chatori Gali if you enjoy non-veg, or New Market for local snacks.

  • What to Pack: Even in summer, Pachmarhi can get breezy at night. Carry a light jacket. For the waterfalls, bring a change of clothes and sturdy sandals/floaters with good grip.
