Overview

Overview

This 5-night itinerary perfectly balances the raw, quiet wilderness of Madhai (Satpura National Park) with the misty, colonial charm of Pachmarhi.

Since Madhai is a "low-impact" wildlife zone, it feels like a secret compared to the more crowded parks, while Pachmarhi offers the best panoramic views in Central India.

🗺️ Trip At-A-Glance

  • Total Duration: 5 Nights / 6 Days

  • Route: Pipariya → Madhai (2N) → Pachmarhi (3N) → Pipariya

  • Best Time: October to March (Safaris are closed during Monsoon, July–Sept).

🗓️ Detailed Itinerary
Phase 1: The Wild Heart (Madhai - 2 Nights)

  • Day 1: Arrival & Riverside Serenity

    • Arrive at Pipariya Railway Station (the nearest railhead).

    • Drive to Madhai (approx. 1.5 hours).

    • Check into a riverside resort. Madhai is unique because you must cross the Denwa River by boat to enter the core forest.

    • Evening: Enjoy a sunset boat cruise or a guided nature walk along the backwaters.

  • Day 2: Into the Satpura Tiger Reserve

    • Morning: Jeep Safari in the core area. Keep an eye out for Leopard, Sloth Bear, and the Indian Giant Squirrel.

    • Afternoon: Try a Canoe Ride on the Denwa River—it’s silent, peaceful, and great for birdwatching.

    • Evening: Optional Night Safari in the buffer zone to spot nocturnal life.

Phase 2: The Queen of Satpura (Pachmarhi - 3 Nights)

  • Day 3: Transition to the Hills

    • After breakfast, drive from Madhai to Pachmarhi (approx. 3 hours).

    • The climb is scenic with hairpin bends. Check into your hotel (ideally an MPT heritage bungalow).

    • Evening: Visit Pachmarhi Lake for boating or walk through the local market.

  • Day 4: Waterfalls & Canyons

    • Morning: Head to Bee Falls. It’s a bit of a climb but the natural pool at the bottom is perfect for a dip.

    • Afternoon: Visit Reechgarh, a massive natural amphitheater-like cave, and Handi Khoh, a deep 300ft ravine with a hauntingly beautiful view.

    • Sunset: End the day at Dhoopgarh—the highest point in Madhya Pradesh. The sunset here is legendary.

  • Day 5: Spiritual Caves & Higher Treks

    • Morning: Visit the Pandav Caves (Buddhist caves where the Pandavas supposedly stayed) and Jata Shankar, a sacred cave temple where the rocks resemble Shiva’s matted hair.

    • Afternoon: Visit Gupt Mahadev and the Bada Mahadev temple.

    • Adventure Option: If you’re fit, trek up the 1,300 steps to Chauragarh Peak for incredible 360-degree views.

  • Day 6: Colonial Heritage & Departure

    • Morning: Visit the Bison Lodge Museum to learn about the region's history and Christ Church, a stunning colonial-era structure.

    • After lunch, drive back to Pipariya (approx. 1.5 hours) for your return train.

💡 Pro-Tips for your Trip

  1. Safari Bookings: Satpura/Madhai safaris must be booked well in advance via the MP Online portal. Unlike other parks, Satpura allows walking safaris, which is a must-do for a unique thrill.

  2. Transport: In Pachmarhi, outside vehicles are restricted in many zones. You will need to hire a registered local 4x4 Gypsy for sightseeing.

  3. Stay: For an authentic vibe, try MPT Denwa Backwater Escape in Madhai and MPT Golf View or Champak Bungalow in Pachmarhi.
